Bankside Yards

Location Southwark
Client Native Land

Bankside Yards is Native Land’s groundbreaking 5.5 acre, £2.5 billion, mixed-use development on London’s Southbank, located between the Oxo Tower and Tate Modern. The masterplan, designed by PLP, includes eight towers which straddle the railway approach to Blackfriars Station. The development delivers over 650 new homes alongside office, cultural, hotel, leisure and retail spaces, all arranged around a new landscaped public realm with new pedestrian links to the River Thames, and is the UK’s first entirely fossil fuel-free development.

The tallest of the eight towers, Opus, stands at fifty storeys high and MSMR have been responsible for the interior layouts and design of the 249 apartments and residents’ amenities. The layouts are meticulously refined to create generous and light living spaces which maximise the panoramic views across London; the defining aspect of this prominent addition to the London skyline. MSMR have also designed the residents’ health and wellness facilities, located under the railway arches which bisect the site. These include a gym, fitness studio, golf simulator, climbing wall and padel court, alongside a wellness spa containing hydrotherapy and thermal contrast pools, all housed within an innovative new vaulted structure referencing the historic Victorian railway arches.
