MSMR was commissioned to design and deliver this new office for long-standing client, Stanhope PLC. The project covers an 8,300 sq. ft. floor plate on Level 33 in 8 Bishopsgate, which Stanhope themselves developed in partnership with the Mitsubishi Estate in 2023.
Briefed to design a headquarters that provided an elevated visitor experience, the project develops new themes and also builds on the successes of Stanhope's previous office space.
On entry to Level 33, visitors are welcomed into an open and light reception space and invited towards the perimeter glazing to observe the remarkable panoramic views of the city. This central zone primarily serves as a reception lounge but also as a flexible 'all hands' space that provides co-work and break out space and can be further adapted to host presentations and team meetings. The plan consists of two further zones, a cluster of five meeting rooms and the team's work area, separated by the lounge.
Bespoke timber shelving screens views into the workspace, allowing borrowed light and maintaining the the perception of the scale of the floor plate. The introduction of natural timber, fabrics, and toned plaster softens the space, and provides the client with a backdrop for their existing art collection.
Working closely with the Stanhope client team, Arup and EQ2, MSMR developed the interior concept and tender information for delivery of the fit-out.
