Office Trip to Margate

The MSMR team travelled to Margate, Kent for our annual field trip.

The tour began at Dreamland, the historic amusement park that has played a significant role in the regeneration of the town in recent years. Highlights included the Scenic Railway, the UK's oldest wooden roller coaster, and a visit to the currently vacant art deco cinema, both Grade II* listed.

Later in the day we walked in the sunshine along the seafront to the Turner Contemporary, designed by David Chipperfield Architects to celebrate the painter J.M.W. Turner, who was drawn to Margate by the quality of light and colour of the sea. David Hockney’s Sunley Window covers the full extent of the gallery’s seaward window and is animated by both the sea and sky beyond where Sir Anthony Gormley’s half-submerged 'Another Time' statue stands.

The day culminated with a stroll through the Old Town's historic buildings, a visit to the pub and a very enjoyable team dinner.
